Annual Parish Meeting minutes

What is an Annual Parish Meeting (APM)?

There can be, and often is, confusion between the Annual Parish Meeting (APM) and the Annual Parish Council Meeting (AGM). All Town and Parish Councils throughout England are required by law to hold an Annual Parish Meeting, which must take place between 1 March and the 1 June (inclusive). Meetings should not commence before 6pm.

When will the APM be.

Historically the Annual Parish Meeting has not been well attended as local groups and organisations tend to have their own year-end meetings, along with websites and social media. In 2024, the parish council decided to incorporate the APM into the public participation section of the Parish Council AGM so that anyone who wishes to address the council or community with APM information has the opportunity to do so. There will be no seperate minutes and anything of relevance from the APM allocated time will be included in the minutes of the parish council meeting. 

What is the Purpose of the Meeting?

The purpose of the meeting is to give the Parish Council, and other local organisations an opportunity to let local residents know what they have been doing over the past year. The meeting is also an opportunity for electors to have a say on anything they consider valuable to the people of the Parish.

Who Can Attend the Meeting?

The Annual Parish Meeting is for all electors of the Parish. It is not a meeting of the Parish Council. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting however, only registered electors of the parish may speak and vote during the meeting.

NOTE:- Due to Government imposed restrictions as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, no Annual Parish Meetings took place in 2020 and only a Zoom meeting took place in 2021.

NOTE:- The Annual Parish Meeting on 7th May 2024 was incorporated into the public participation section of the Parish Council AGM. As no members of the public or community groups attended, no minutes were taken.
